5 Steps for A Stress-free Summer

School is out! It’s now time to celebrate summer + all the great things that come along with it. What to plan?? What to do??

We are so very lucky to live in a community that provides ample opportunities to experience a variety of activities. However, with so many great options in the area, it can be a little overwhelming. Having a schedule laid out can help to make sure you’re filling the summer with a wide variety of activities. And while we make no guarantees, it will hopefully help to minimize the “I’m bored” comments from your crew.

Start Here

We’ve compiled a list of activities along with a free printable! If you’re wondering how you’ll spend the next few weeks with your little ones, this can help! Here are 5 steps to help you get started:

1Sit down with your kids + work together on a “summer bucket list”. Everyone contributes ideas or activities they’d like to do before school starts up again.

2Go through our list of local activities as well + highlight those that interest you. You’ll find some events repeat, so if you have a schedule conflict on one day, see if you can attend the activity on a different day.

3If you’re feeling extra organized, color code your activities – each child could choose their color so everyone gets a fair chance contribute their ideas. Or perhaps color code the activities based on type – i.e. blue is for arts + crafts, green is for reading/storytime, red is for physical activities, etc. Whatever works best for you + your family!

water activities are always fun for summer
Summertime – when playing in the kiddie pool doubles as bath time

4Post the calendar in a spot where your little ones can see it + get excited about what’s to come. It can also help to calm anyone who may be less than thrilled about the day’s activities by showing them that their first choice is later in the week.

5Use the printable to fill in each week’s activities, along with any other family commitments you have. (Family vacation? Check.) Then, fill the gaps with anything else you’d like – pool days, lemonade stand, reading time, fort building, write + mail letters to loved ones – the possibilities are endless!

Before you know it, you’ll wonder how summer flew by so quickly – as it always does. But hopefully, you’ll be glad you had the chance to create so many great memories with your family that you’ll cherish for years to come.
